Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our June 2018 winners:
Rebecca Brady, speech therapist at Life Care Center of Jefferson City, Tennessee, heard a resident asking to take home one of the horse pictures hanging at the facility. After explaining to the resident that she couldn’t take it home with her, Brady bought a framed horse painting and placed it on the resident’s bed while she was out of the room. When the resident returned, she was so excited with the gift.
Denise Whitesides, licensed practical nurse at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise, Idaho, heard a resident say that he could not go to heaven without a record player. Instead of dismissing this unusual statement, she went home and ordered him a new record player and brought it in with his favorite record and gave it to him. The resident is now more at peace.
Jenifer Sanchez, certified nursing assistant at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe, Arizona, noticed when a regular visitor was not looking well. The older gentleman often comes to pray with residents, and one day he looked pale and unsteady. Sanchez sat him down, got his vitals, gave him water and had the nurse assess him. After that, she helped him get into his car and took the time to check on him later to make sure he was OK. The next week, he came and thanked her for helping him when he was suffering from heat exhaustion.
