Jessica Lawthorn, a resident at Life Care Center of Jefferson City, recently had her artwork featured on a Christmas card.
Each year, the center’s parent company, Life Care Centers of America, invites residents in more than 200 nursing and rehab facilities nationwide to submit card designs, and one piece is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of eight designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout Life Care. Lawthorn’s snowman painting won the top spot in the Eastern Division contest and will be featured on Christmas cards sent around the nation.
“It’s very humbling and unbelievable. I didn’t think I would win,” Lawthorn said during a surprise party thrown to celebrate her accomplishment. “There were so many wonderful pictures. I just feel very privileged to have won.”
Lawthorn is the youngest resident at the facility. In addition to art (especially painting and crafting), Lawthorn enjoys a wide variety of music, games, outings with her parents and socializing with others. She knows everyone in the building, associates and residents alike, and can often be seen sticking her head into rooms to say hello. She always has a smile on her face and brings much joy to the facility.
